“The expert in anything was once a beginner.”

Helen Hayes

I take such comfort in Helen’s statement.

Helen had a career that lasted 80 years. She reminds me of my mother who is still working at the age of 80 herself – makes it very hard for me to ever think of retiring!

I love being both a beginner and an expert. Currently, I am a beginner at blog and book writing but I am an expert at what I write about. The discomfort of moving into an unknown is buffeted by the comfort of doing what you know.

A couple years ago, with the piano gathering dust now that the children no longer live at home, I decided to finally do something about my interest in playing the instrument. I am pretty sure I have at least another 10 years in me, which is what I estimated it would take me to become proficient at this new hobby.

How about you? Where are you in your journey to becomming the best version of yourself? What are you beginning and where has your practice made you an expert?
